Braided Fishing Line: What you need to know

When anglers choose a particular type of braid, they often look at breaking strain, how well it casts, and to a lesser degree colour and knot strength. When you consider that you’re main line is probably the most important part of your fishing gear, having an in-depth knowledge of what your spooling onto your favourite fishing reels can certainly help contribute to your fishing success. Dan Kaggelis of Fishing Monthly, says few anglers fully understand the right braid to use for certain fish. Kaggelis gives a good rundown on braided fishing lines, more importantly the right ones to be spooled on good fishing reels.

The Perfect Fishing Tackle in Australia for Catching a Dusky Flathead

At first sight, you won’t even notice their presence deep in the sea floor. But when a prey comes too close, the hungry dusky flathead emerges, propelled forward by its powerful tail, and traps the helpless prey in its strong jaws and swallows it whole. It might arguably be the best hunter of the sea, the dusky flathead, but this hunter becomes the hunted, especially for fishing enthusiasts. Over at Fishing Australia, Graham Fifield shares his experience of hunting the hunter—and offers some tips on the type of fishing tackle perfect for catching a dusky flathead: Ensure you have the correct weight of jig head on the lure. Too light and the lure may get caught in the current or wind and rarely hit the bottom. Too heavy and a flathead may not have time to swallow the lure – flathead will usually grab a lure as it sinks and a heavy weight will leave it falling too fast.
