Basic Tackle Box Essentials

No fishing enthusiast should be without a reliable tackle box. Even if you’re just a beginner, you should already know what you should put in along with your gear to get the best results whenever you head out to fish, be it through saltwater or freshwater. Here are some of the basic necessities you shouldn’t leave without:

Rod and Reel – There are many types you can choose from, but for beginners, you might want to settle for a spincast type that can help you avoid tangles when casting.

Filet Knife – Best for preparing the fish you’ve caught for cooking. If you’re planning to camp outdoors, you could upgrade this to a stronger knife that you can use for a variety of other purposes.

Fishing Line – Don’t just bring one line, though. Take extras for when your catch snaps it off your rod. Choose between three basic types: monofilament, braided, and fluorocarbon.

Hooks – When it comes to choosing hooks, you have two main options. Snelled have sections of leader tied to them, whereas unsnelled doesn’t.

Bobbers – Bobbers float on the surface and tell you whether a fish has been caught on your hook. Choose bobbers of varying sizes for different fish.

Pliers and Wrenches – Don’t forget tools that you’ll be needing to troubleshoot your rod or hook in case something goes wrong.
